Married Maud Hooper, in 1919; Maud died in 1925. His son John Kevin Patrick Greelish, born in 1920, served in WWII. Brother of John Greelish who was killed in action in 1918 in France. Before ever enlisting, Martin had incurred a couple of fines - in December 1912 for failing to take the oath of allegiance under the Defence Act, and in February 1914 for failing to render personal service under the Defence Act, in absenting himself from parades and drill without leave. On 12 December 1917 he was reported to be improving, but by 18 January 1918 he had been invalided home. On 4 February 1918 he was one of three Temuka men warmly welcomed home, by both relatives and officials. Martin was suffering from trench feet when he returned home. In 1919 electoral roll, Martin is living at home in Temuka, listed as a 'returned soldier'. Biography provided by the Timaru Museum SCRoll project.
