"For conspicuous service in operations against the Japanese. Flying Officer Davis carried out two tours of duty as a fighter pilot in the Solomons area. He has completed 173 hours of operational flying and has destroyed two dive-bombers and one Zero. At all times he has displayed great courage and resourcefulness, and despite danger has pressed home attacks against the enemy regardless of personal risk to himself. During combat with numerous enemy aircraft on his first tour, he was serverely wounded in the left shoulder and leg. His aircraft was badly damaged but he flew it back to base with his one good arm and made a successful belly landing. Despite this experience he returned for a second tour of duty, full of determination, and destroyed three enemy aircraft." AWMM
