  • NZ403783 Claude Goodwin Thompson was a Sergeant Pilot with 100 Squadron, Royal New Zealand Air Force, in Singapore during the Second World War. He was captured by the Japanese in Java in 1942 and spent the next three-and-a-half years as a prisoner of war in Indonesia until liberation and being repatriated in 1945.

    Wrote a memoir of his experiences as a prisoner of war over three and a half years: Thompson, Claude Goodwin. "Into the sun". Auckland War Memorial Museum Library. MS-1102.

    Captured in Java but escaped. Re-Captured Thailand. Involved in the Thailand / Burma Railway and Sumatra Railway. AWMM
