Born: 17th March 1882 - Waikaka, Southland, New Zealand

Alexander was brought up on the family farm of Carslae, Waikaka. He sought to enlist in the Boer War but was thwarted in his early attempts by his mother and sisters. He eventually found this out and sorted them out and went to serve in South Africa. Upon his return his worked on a Gold Dredge, one of many at the time working on the Waikaka River. In his spare time he worked on the family farm. On 2nd February 1910 he married Mary Sinclair from Nightcaps. One interesting story of the time that fascinates me is that they went on their Honeymoon to Queenstown. On their second or third day there Mary's mother and sister arrived up there to accompany them for the rest of their stay. During the years 1911 ~ 1924 they had a family of 6, Evelyn (Eva), Jessie, Catherine (Kitty), John (Jack), Jeanette & Elsie. He continued farming until about 1950 when he and Mary retired to 59 Broughton St, Gore. Alexander passed away on 1st December 1965 and Mary on 9th July 1975 Public - Barry - Direct descendant - 6 February 2023 - Family Oral and written history
