  • F/S Everitt joined the New Zealand Army in 1965 and quickly established himself as a leading bandsman. Between 1965 and 1967 F/S Everitt served with 1 RNZIR Band in Malaya and saw active service in Borneo in 1966.

Between 1969 and 1971 F/S Everitt served with 1 RNZIR Band in Singapore and as a member of the Regiment Dance Band, Kiwi 5, drew high praise carrying out 170 performances by the group during his tour.

From 1974 to 1976 he served in Singapore with the 2/1 RNZIR Band featuring as a soloist on many occasions. In March 1977 F/S Everitt joined the RNZAF. In addition to his duties as a service bandsman, F/S Everitt was selected for the National Band of New Zealand, touring the United States in 1980 and 1995 and Europe in 1985.

In 1981 F/S Everitt also performed as a member of the Royal fanfare on State occasions. In 1990 he was appointed Drum Major of the National Band and led the Band at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland. F/S Everitt’s energies and enthusiasm for music are unbounded. In his own time he plays a significant part in community bands and as a member of the Wanganui Band has taken part in the Australian National Band competition and Drum Majored the band at the 1993 Edinburgh Tattoo.

In 1996 he was made a Life member of the Wanganui City Brass Band. F/S Everitt brings skill, dedication and enthusiasm to service and community bands alike. The professionalism with which he approaches his duties is illustrated in the results he has achieved with the RNZAF Base Ohakea Band.

In 1995 the band won the inter-base band competition for the thirteenth consecutive year. Under his encouragement, leadership and direction the band is not only fully manned by enthusiastic and capable regular and territorial personnel but it undertakes a full programme both on Base and in the local community. During his 32 years of service, F/S Everitt has provided outstanding commitment and service to military and community bands throughout New Zealand. Indeed, today he is still the reigning champion Drum Major in New Zealand! He has been an excellent representative and ambassador for the RNZAF. (Citation for New Zealand Meritorious Service Medal, Hanson, p. 179).

Flight Sergeant Everitt also served as the Bandmaster for the Royal New Zealand Air Force Ohakea Band.

Married to Sergeant Christine Nancy, (BEM) also of the Royal New Zealand Air Force AWMM
