  • On a transit flight to Gibraltar in July 1944, the port side engine caught fire, the crew was able land the Sunderland in the ware but in severe swells, the crew launched the rubber dinghys and 4 smaller dinghys and attached them together, they spent about 5 hours in the ware and wind took them towards a sandy beach where they spent the night. The next morning they were transported to Dakar by the Free French Navy Corvette, Lobelia. The Sunderland evenually sank, along with the spare engine they were taking to Freetown (Goldfish Club).
