  • While in the Air Force, Albert Beets worked in a sawmill in Guadalcanal. In June 1943 he returned to N.Z,. suffering from malaria, returning to Guadalcanal in March 1944, and then came back to N.Z. in September 1944. He was discharged from the Air Force on 25th October 1944 for medical reasons. Albert's officer, while in the Islands, was Flying Officer Stanley Palmer Tuck and we believe that after the war Albert worked for him as a bushman in the Tataarankina Block at Tarawera in Hawkes Bay. Family source.

Served in 4 Field Battery, Territorial Force, and 37 Field Battery, New Zealand Army, in New Zealand before Air Force service and embarkation overseas. Served in Napier, Greytown, Foxton and Waiouru. Source: Military Personnel File. AWMM
