      1973 AWMM
      1973 New Year Honours " Squadron Leader Cattermole joined the RNZAF in February 1943 and served as a navigator until July 1954 he transfered to the Special Duties division. During the past eighteen years he has served as a General Service Training officer and as a member of the Provost Branch. Since January 1968 he has filled the appointment of Provost Marshal in the RNZAF and concurrently undertaken secondary duties as Staff Officer Ground Defence, Staff Officer Bands. In June 1970 he was additionally appointed Director of Provost Services for the Armed Services. Despite his wide variety of responsibilities Squadron Leader Cattermole has more than satisfactorily met every demand that has been made of him. Displaying outstanding initiative, judgement and resourcefulness he has constantly reviewed requirements and procedures, and ensured that high standards of efficiency were maintained. He has displayed a dedication to improve training, standards and esprit-de-corps of his subordinates, with the aim of making them more effective members of their Service. Examples of his efforts are the provision of mobile security patrols on Bases, personal communications for Service Police patrols, wider use of guard dogs, significant advances in the detection of drigs, and an innovative programme of activity for the Band of the RNZAF. Squadron Leader Cattermole also maintains an active and effective liasion with the New Zealand Police, the other Services, and Allied Air Forces. Squadron Leader Cattermole is a dedicated resourceful, and completely reliable officer, for whom no task is too difficult. He carries out his duties with meticulous attention to detail and requires a minimum of supervision from his superiors. His achievements have been a valuable contribution to the efficiency of the RNZAF." AWMM
