    • 13 June 1941, 103 Squadron: DFC for low level attack (900ft) in Wellington over Brest, targeting The Scharnhorst & Gneisenau. After remaining over target for half an hour for visibility & dropping bombs, his gunners took out 8 searchlights [London Gazette 1 July 1941 (3770)]

      23 Oct 1941, 108 Squadron: Bar to DFC for crash landing about 10 miles from advanced base in darkness after the Wellington was badly damaged during raid on Benghasi and ran out of fuel. He had ordered the crew to bale out but the Rear Gunner & Wireless Operator missed the order and emerged (perspiring) after the landing.
