      23 Oct 1941, 108 Squadron: Bar to DFC for crash landing about 10 miles from advanced base in darkness after the Wellington was badly damaged during raid on Benghasi and ran out of fuel. He had ordered the crew to bale out but the Rear Gunner & Wireless Operator missed the order and emerged (perspiring) after the landing.
