  • Pte. George Henry Dore was wounded during the engagement of Te Ngutu o te Manu on the 7th of September, 1868 when his arm was shot by a musket ball, shattering the bone and severing the artery. He spent five days in the bush after the order was given to retreat, finding his militia once before telling them to leave him as the enemy were approaching. His arm was amputated.
