  • Entered as a Boy Seaman 2nd Class. Posted to LEANDER December 1941 and presumably was serving in her at the Battle of Kolombangara in the Solomons. He joined RNZN on a 12-year engagement as a regular on 13/3/1943. He took LEANDER to Boston then went to Britain and joined the ACHILLES in March 1944. He was posted off her in June to DRAKE and served there from July-September 1944. At this time he was sent to the Royal Navy shore establishment HMS LANKA in Ceylon and served there from September to December 1944. He was then posted to HMS BABARA a Fleet Air Arm base located within the Royal Navy base at Trincomalee in Ceylon. He served there from December 1944-October 1945. He was then returned to New Zealand and was at PHILOMEL from October 1945-January 1946. He was posted to the minesweeper HMNZS WAIHO operating out of Auckland and served in her until August 1946. On 1 April 1946, the RNZN reduced all 12-year engagements to 6-year terms so he had three years left his term. He was posted to PHILOMEL in August 1946 and was discharged SNLR 2/4/1947 as a PHILOMEL mutineer. AWMM
