  • Enlisted in the NZ Territorial Forces 8th August 1940. Mark was there for 10 months in the NZ Corps of Signals (1st Signal Company) before seeking discharge and enlisting in the air force. Mark Trained at Trentham Wellington in the maintenance of army transmitting sets. In the Air Force Mark operated radar installations first and based then in aircraft.

    Mark served overseas in Vanuatu, New Caledonia, New Britain, Solomon Islands, and New Guinea. He also served in New Zealand at various points in the war: 22 August 1941 to 15 July 1943, 7 March 1944 to 1 October 1944 and 1 September 1945 to 6 November 1945.

    On 9 May 2023 at Waikanae aged 101 years. Dearly loved husband of Frances (dec) for 72 years. Brother of Owen (dec) and Marie (dec). Father and father-in-law of Paul and Barbara, Kevin, Raymond (dec), and Owen. Grandad to Simon, Clare and Susan. Great-Grandad to Andy, Benjamin and Ellie. Heartfelt thanks to the staff and carers at Waikanae Lodge Retirement Village.
