Rank of Sergeant in Cadets at New Plymouth Boys High School until 1937. Sole MTS&O (Machine tool Setter and Operator) in Number 4 Fighter Maintenance Unit is Pacific Islands. In Bouganville in charge of a machine shop serving NZ Fighter Wing and Bomber Squadron. Transferred to Reserves 30 Oct 1945 - 18 Feb 1960.

After war was a DSIR Engineer. Organiser and founding secretary of the Institute of NZ Motor Industries (INZMI renamed iame Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers) in Hawkes Bay (1953). Life member. Teaching engineering and motor mechanics at Hamilton Technical College and Napier, then Head of Technical Department at Te Puke High School 1955-1980. Registered Engineering Associate. Designer of the first large solar heated swimming pool in the world, 1956. Relief Teacher in Rotorua 1980.Tony's father Hubert Lionel Lewis served in the army during WW1.

Tony was very active in Rotary Club and was a past president.

Tony and Ruth Lewis had three children:
