PILOT OFFICER W. R. WATSON KILLED. ACCIDENT IN ENGLAND. Cable advice has been received of the death in England of Pilot Officer William R. Watson, of the R.A.F., a son of Mrs. J. Watson, and the late Mr. Watson, formerly of Masterton. Mrs. Watson now resides in Martinborough. The late Pilot Officer Watson, who was 24 years of age, joined up with the R.A.F. in England about three years ago, and had been engaged in instructional duties. His death occurred as the result of an air accident. He was a pupil of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club, learning to fly at the Hood Aerodrome. Prior to joining up with the R.A.F. he had resided practically all his life in Masterton. He was a pupil of the Masterton West School and later of the Wairarapa High School. For some time he was secretary of the Masterton Motor Cycle Club, being a particularly keen motor cyclist. He was the only child and the sympathy of a large number of friends will be extended to his mother. Air Force Casualty, Wairarapa Times-Age, 13 December 1940, Page 4 AWMM
