Military Cross - 'In the operations near Peronne on the 28th August, 1918, a hidden machine gun was holding up his company. He moved forward with a runner, located the gun, and sending back the runner with a full report, rushed the gun alone, capturing it and killing the crew. Later, he took command of his company when all the other officers had become casualties, and led it successfully to its objective, displaying great gallantry throughout the day.' - 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 67- 03/06/1919 | Bar to Military Cross - 'For most conspicuous gallantry during the attack on the Fonsomme line, on 3rd October 1918, near Estrees. When his company were unable to pass the enemy wire, he pushed forward with four men and a Lewis gun, and established a post on the objective. He posted one man to use the gun on a party of 70 of the enemy, and with the remaining three men dashed forward and captured the lot. He then, with five men and a Lewis gun, attacked and captured a party of 40 of the enemy. He did splendid work.' - 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 10. AWMM
