  • Was one of three sons of William Albert Comport and Ellen (Nel) Comport (nee Cutbush), who were all killed in action during the Great War. His brothers' names were Harry (Henry) Comport and William Charles Comport.

    Albert Comport's war record is not with New Zealand Defence. Proof of death is with the OIC Base Records, Melbourne.

    A New Zealand Certified Copy of Entry of Death in the War Register from the Registrar-General's Office states the Date of Registration of death as 19 March 1918, although the date of death was 20 July 1916.

    Joined 13th Bn, Mudros, 23 October 1915.
    Disembarked Alexandria, 23 December 1915 (tonsillitis); admitted to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 24 December 1915; to Overseas Base, Ghezireh, 28 December 1915; rejoined unit, Moascar, 4 February 1916.
    Transferred to 45th Bn, 3 March 1916; taken on strength of 45th Bn, Moascar, 3 March 1916.
    Transferred to 56th Bn, 20 March 1916.
    Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916.
    Wounded in action, 20 July 1916.
    Died of wounds behind Battalion Lines on being carried to Field Ambulance, 20 July 1916.
