  • Proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campaign), 1 March 1915 [but did not serve at Gallipoli].

    Found guilty, Alexandria, 2 July 1915, of disobeying a lawful command given by a superior officer in the execution of his duty: awarded 7 days' detention.


    Transferred to 7th Battery, Zabrich, 27 August 1915.

    Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 23 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 March 1916.

    Wounded in action, 21 August 1916 (gun shot wound, right thigh), and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance, and then to Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to England, 27 August 1916, and admitted to County of London Hospital, Epsom, 28 August 1916; discharged from 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, on furlough, 31 October 1916, to report to Command Depot, Perham Downs, 16 October 1916.

    Proceeded overseas to France, and marched into Base Depot, Etaples, 27 February 1917.

    Transferred to 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, 12 March 1917.

    On leave to England, 24 September 1918; rejoined unit in Belgium from leave, 9 October 1917.

    Admitted to 12th Casualty Clearing Station, 25 July 1918 (diarrhoea); transferred to 55th Casualty Clearing Station, 31 July 1918; to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 8 August 1918; to England, 10 August 1918, and admitted to Graylingwell Hospital, Chichester, 11 August 1918 (diarrhoea: slight); discharged on furlough, 17 August 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, 31 August 1918.

    Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Borda', 20 October 1918 (Submarine Guard duty); disembarked Adelaide, 15 December 1918, for onward travel by rail to Melbourne; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Melbourne, 16 February 1919. AWMM
