    • Attended Wanganui College and was a student at the University of Auckland 1917-1919. Attended New Zealand Flying School. AWMM
    • William was the son of Sir George Tinline Elliot KB, OBE and Lady Rachel Winifred McKerrow. He obtained his Flying certificate on Curtiss Flying Boat at the New Zealand Flying school at Kahimarama on 28th September 1918. He had a younger brother who served in the Second World War, 501287 Sergeant James Bruce Elliot who was Killed in Action on 12th May 1943 in Italy while serving with the New Zealand Artillery.
