  • One of three brothers to serve in WWII; Thomas Arthur Harris (275519); Francis Ian Harris (10181) and Charles James Stuart Harris (Unknown Air Force service number). Ian and Tom enlisted together in September 1939 immediately on the outbreak of war. Ian was temporarily rejected for a blood clot caused by a work injury when he worked as a bushman. However he was accepted for the 2nd Echelon, 23rd Canterbury/Otago Battalion 2nd NZEF, and sailed for England via South Africa on the SS Andes early 1940. He then served in the Middle East from Syria through El Elamein to Tunisia in North Africa before being repatriated. AWMM
