  • Thinking of you, this, and every ANZAC day, our dear Grumpy. You were the kindest of men, with a cheeky smile and a heart of gold. I still know how to roll a cigarette with one hand, just like you taught me! But most of all I remember your strong hug, warm words and razor sharp humour. We miss you, dear Grumpy, thank you for your sacrifice and for being our wonderful grandfather. Give Nana a hug from us xxx

  • We miss you Grumpy! You were a real inspiration to me. You were such a calm presence in our family and you worked hard. You were a man of incredible strength, integrity and character and this was demonstrated in the sacrifices you made leaving family behind when you went to war. I have such great memories of you bringing chocolate biscuits and lemonade to our place when you visited. I also loved to pick the grapes from your grapevines in Cambridge. You had a great sense of humour and loved to have fun with all the grandkids. I loved to hear your stories about growing up and vividly remember you working in the piggery in your quintessential white singlet, beige trousers and cheese cutter hat. When I was 7th form my art portfolio was based on portraits of you. It was a blessing and a privilege that you got to see it just before you passed away. Love you lots. May you rest in eternal peace.

  • Eric Victor Webby - Lovingly known to all his Grandchildren as Grumpy (started by one of them who couldn't pronounce Grandad) - the least Grumpy person you could ever meet! Always there for his family, loving, kind, generous and content in life - quite incredible when you consider what he went through. After the war he never spoke of it - probably too painful. We miss you Grumpy and your beautiful spirit - rest in peace.
