  • My Great-uncle Bob volunteered with his brother Percy at the beginning of WW2. The family remembers two wonderful men. Percy was killed by a German sniper while picking up the wounded after a battle. Bob saw it happen. At the same time he was taken as a POW where he suffered for the duration of the war. Towards the end he and others with him were marched deeper into Germany and if any fell they were shot. The men helped keep each other up...When he arrived back, the family excitedly went to meet him but didn't recognise him for he had changed so much ... Nor was he able to eat the beautiful dinner prepared . Bob, who I didn't meet, died less than 10 years later, due to the illnesses and injuries he never really recovered from, but the family never forgot his kind and gentle nature, nor that of Percy's. We remember them. Sending love....Arohanui, always... Mary and Charlie
