  • 'Les Mooney’s first of three battalion bands, 1963 – 1965, also called the “originals,” as the name was changed from 1 NZ Regt to 1RNZIR during their tour, had a drum corps attached from the companies. They were only used on parades. The Drum Corps was comprised of Norm Booker, Trevor Doel, NK Howell, Tiny Hill a cook, G Julian, NK Kaa, N Kena, Ken J Kennedy (CSM 1970-71) NK Milliken, John “Te K” Te Ua, H Tei, and Andy Linton a piper. Trevor Doel (clerk) was the only one of this lot that accompanied the band to, Simanggang in the Second Division in Sarawak on 6 July 1965. They travelled on a RAF Beverley Transport plane. They returned on the SS Aubey to Port Dickson on 23 October 1965.' Roger Carter. AWMM
