"The following extract from a letter from Rt. Hon W. Nash, CH, MP, dated 24th June 1965, indicated why this award was made - "It was indeed a pleasure to learn of the honour bestowed upon you by Her Majesty the Queen in making you an Additional Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Military Divison) in appreciation of the invaluable work you have done in Fiji and the surrounding islands for service personnel and their families, anf for the Fijians. The unselfish was in which you gave of your free time to assist civilian medical practitioners in 1964; the mery flights you made and the patients you treated under difficult conditions; and the training you gave to native Assistant Medical Officers, the St. John Ambulance Association, and the Fiji Military Force, gave you a reputation amongst the people of the Islands for outstanding service, which has done an immense amount of good for the RNZAF and for New Zealand."
