  • Founder of the NZ Army Band. Bandmaster on the 1RNZIR Band tour to Vietnam 27 Oct to 2 Nov 1969.

'Jim Carson was recruited as a professional bandmaster in to the rank of Ssgt. He recruited the majority of the band before departure from NZ. The band came together in Nov 1961. It was based in Wellington Lines, Terendak Camp near Malacca. The Drum Major was Sgt Graeme Ward, a PTI. Like Terry Moloney's band in 1957-59 a pipe band was raised from the battalion members on a voluntary basis. Jim Carson was the only other bandmaster to raise a battalion pipe band.' Roger Carter.

Originally from the Palmerston North Garrison Band. Veteran source.
