  • 'Trevor served with the 1st NZ Regt 1963-1965. 1NZ Regt became 1RNZIR on 1 April 1964 and are sometimes affectionally known as the “Originals.” Bandmaster Les Mooney had inherited a full Drum Corps of over 12 drummers from the previous Bandmaster WO2 Jim Carson. Trevor was an enthusiastic member of the Drum Corps and accompanied the battalion band to Sarawak for 4 months in July 1965. I served alongside Trevor in a later battalion. My memory is a bit faded, and I thought he was an orderly room clerk, perhaps he sung in our church choir or took a role in a stage show at Slim School. Anyway we certainly caught up with each other in Papakura Camp over the years. Trevor also served in HQ NZ Force Vietnam, and was present at the 1RNZIR Band concert on the roof of the Free World Military Headquarters building on 1 November 1969. This concert was followed by a famous party at the Military Police HQ Saigon. Dozens of stories have emerged from this night in Saigon, and I think every bandsman has his favourite. It is lucky the party was on that night, as the following day this nine story building in the Cholon District of Saigon was levelled by incoming enemy mortar fire. I am proud to have known Trevor and remember him as a gentleman and a very strong lifelong supporter of the New Zealand Army Band. He was truly a Heritage Member of our NZ Army Band Association.'
