  • Completed 26 years of military service, including 9 years in the New Zealand Army, 8 years in the Rhodesian Army, and 6 years with the Omani Army and Omani Special Forces. Their New Zealand military career involved compulsory training with 1 Nelson Marlborough & West Coast Regiment, 1 Wellington Regiment, and work with various communications units such as the Southern District Signals Troop and Army Headquarters Communications Centre.



    They served in West Germany with Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (GSG 9) of the German Federal Police, participating in anti-terrorist operations. From 1959 to 1968, they served as part of the Royal New Zealand Signals Corps (RNZSigs), including a period as Sergeant drill instructor with 161 Battery RNZA from 1965-1966. In 1966, they deployed to Vietnam with 161 Battery and were seconded to Australian 145 and 110 Signal Squadrons, working in communication centres in Saigon and Vung Tau.
