  • Known as Wally. GSM 1962 Medal, Borneo clasp issued 16 Nov 1966. Also South Vietnam pair. Cpl, Tpt NCO SME circa 1972-76. Later Tpt Sgt, 2 Field Squadron RNZE. The RNZE team working on civil aid tasks at that stage on Guadalcanal and was out on a morning PT run along the road to the Honiara Airport. Wally was the rear man some 35 metres behind the Troop as a ‘safety’ man ready to warn troops that a vehicle was coming. Killed in a road accident during PT in Solomon Islands 1 Aug 80 by unlicensed driver in an unlicensed taxi. Survived by wife whom we knew in our close group as ‘Butch’ and two children. His body was repatriated and is interred in the Kelvin Grove Cemetery, Palmerston North. Later entitled to NZOSM, NZDefSM.
