He was the Section Commander of 3 Section, 3 Platoon. (W333). His section consisted of; Cpl George Preston (Sect Comd), LCpl Sammy Samson (Sect 2IC), Len Portland, Bob Newson, Tom Cooper, Greg Taukiri, Mike Ngatae. Public - Roscoe - Comrade - 6 June 2018 - https://vietnamwar.govt.nz/photo/3-section-3-platoon-w3-company George was not a Gunner on his first tour to Vietnam, he was an Infantry Private attached to 161 Battery as an Operator/Driver/Signaler in the FO Party (Forward Observation) with the Australian Infantry Battalions (mainly 3 Bn RAR). 161 Battery RNZA fired the guns from the Gun Line but they had FO partys (x1 RNZA officer & x1 signaler) grunting with the Infantry Battalions to call in the artillery when needed.
