Name spelt on Nominal roll as Purdon, but recorded as Purdom in Archway and in Military Personnel File.Born in Hawick, Scotland and joined the Royal Horse Artillery and served in the South African War. Settled in New Zealand and joined the New Zealand Permanent Staff. In 1910 he was appointed Quartermaster-sergeant to the Waikato Mounted Rifles. He was sent back to New Zealand after being wounded and then was attached to the Waikato Mounted Rifles and was stationed in Hamilton.
