  • Russell was brought up in Havelock North. His mother died before he enlisted. His lifelong interest in cars arose from his father operating the Havelock North garage. He and his fiancé from Hastings married in Palmerston North when he was home on leave from the Air Force. They lived at 33 Elmira Avenue Palmerston North. Their only child predeceased them both. Russell and Joan had 3 grandchildren. Their first grandchild was expected at the time Russell died. (Public source, 31/07/15)
