    5 Whiringa ā-rangi 1942 AWMM
'On 3 July 1942 Lance Corporal Clark was one of the stretcher bearers, attached a leading Company in an attack on a strongly fortified enemy position near the ALAMEIN LINE, Egypt. On a forward slope 500 yards from the enemy’s forward defence localities, while under intents machine-gun, anti-tank and mortar fire, he conscientiously attended to men as they were wounded with utter disregard of personal safety. Even when wounded himself he would not admit this until all the casualties had received attention. Throughout the action he was an example to his fellow soldiers in his coolness end disregard of enemy fire while carrying out his duties as a stretcher-bearer.'. (Source: The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Clark, William John. (Ref. WO 373/22/118). Military Medal. AWMM
