  • Les’s brother Jim, D/J 100051, Chief Petty Officer Gunnery, in the Royal Navy in the UK, who joined up in 1920 and was due to retire in November 1940. He had been serving for several years on the Aircraft Carrier HMS Glorious. Jim went down with the ship when the Glorious, and its escort ships HMS Ardent and Acasta were was sunk on 8 June 1940 in the North Sea with the loss of life of 1529 lives.
