    • Ashton's father Private Richard Melvin Herrick (born Lower Moutere, Nelson) - son of William Ashton Herrick & Sara (nee Tannant) served in France (1917) during World War 1 . His brother Rifleman Tannant Arthur Herrick : NZEF # 26102 also served in France & Belgium (1917-1918). They are both remembered at their birth place of Nelson - on the World War 1 'Wall of Remembrance' at Founders Park, Nelson City - which commemorates the 3600+ Nelson & Districts born service men and women who served in World War 1.
