Son of Abraham and Frances Levy, of Wellington. His brother Edward (Ted) Levy served in the NZEF.

Graduated from Edinburgh University and worked in the Hull Royal Infirmary, where he received an honorarium of fifty guineas in consideraiton of his services. (Sidelights on the war. Dominion, Volume 9, Issue 2665, 10 January 1916, Page 6)

"Just before leaving Great Britain for the front S.M. Levy met his brother Capt. Louis Levy, R.A.M.C., whom he had not seen for twelve years. Capt. Levy had been stationed at the casualty clearning station since the out break of war. The borthers had only one day together when S.M. Levy left for France, meeting his death a few days later."
