    2nd Lieut. Edward Henry Roche R.G.A. Spec. Res. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He established an observation post near the fornt line, and remained there for four days and nights under heavy shell fire, sending back valuable information.He showed great endurance and fortitude throughout. Place: Ypres Date: 31 July 1917 AWMM

    After the war, Practiced in Auckland from 1931 as general physician /
    cardiologist. He was appointed Honourary physician, and was at Auckland Hospital from 1932-44 and then at Green Lane Hospital from 1944-74.(Source: Wright St-Clair)

    He became a life member of the Auckland Museum in 1949, and was elected to council as a representatiive of the members in 1962. He was elected to the trust board in 1975. He served as chairman of the Museum Committee of Council from 1964 until 1976. He retired from council in 1976, but continued as a trust member until 1981. ( Source: Public Source: from Obituary)




    For the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, he was a member of the Dominion Committee, elected councillor from 1957 to 1960, New Zealand vice-president from 1960 to 1962 and a long serving member of the NZ Board of Censors. He was president of the Auckland Division of the BMA in 1961 and president for seven years of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. A major contribution to medicine in Auckland was the establishement of the Postgraduate Medical Committee in the University of Auckland of which he was Chairman for many years.
