  • Prior to enlistment Ron was employed by the Farmers Auctioneering Company, Hamilton, where he completed his apprenticeship as a Saddler.
Ron was called up to join the forces.
At his induction, when the recruiting sergeant saw his height (5'2") he told Ron that he could go home - he was too short. Ron was embarrassed in front of his mates and so he volunteered to join up.
In February 1947 Ron married Rose Margaret Madden (now deceased) in Tauranga. They had one son and four daughters. Ron worked for Thompson's Saddlery in Gisborne.
In May 1962 Ron married Edith Irvine Anderson (now deceased) in Hamilton. They had one son.
Ron and Edith ran their Saddlery business in Frankton Junction, Hamilton from the early 1960's until they retired in 1984. (Source: Public Source) AWMM
