  • Tom Day on return to Auckland, and with his wife Valma, bought a house at 36 Chester Ave, Westmere. He continued working back at Tatterfield’s until they decided to get ahead. With a growing family, four at this stage, they sold up and bought 5 acres at South Road Henderson, where they both worked hard as Poultry Farmers and later Poultry Processors. Seven children now and Henderson was a great place to live. Tom and Valma had a holiday caravan at Pinewoods Caravan Park, Red Beach and enjoyed their holiday time there, so much so they later purchased a piece of land, built a house and retired there. As health deteriorated they sold and lived closer to family at Hillsborough Heights Retirement Village. Tom only lived there one year before he died. Valma lived there 23 years, before moving to a rest home in Ponsonby. (Source:Public Source) AWMM
