Tom Day on return to Auckland, and with his wife Valma, bought a house at 36 Chester Ave, Westmere. He continued working back at Tatterfield’s until they decided to get ahead. With a growing family, four at this stage, they sold up and bought 5 acres at South Road Henderson, where they both worked hard as Poultry Farmers and later Poultry Processors. Seven children now and Henderson was a great place to live. Tom and Valma had a holiday caravan at Pinewoods Caravan Park, Red Beach and enjoyed their holiday time there, so much so they later purchased a piece of land, built a house and retired there. As health deteriorated they sold and lived closer to family at Hillsborough Heights Retirement Village. Tom only lived there one year before he died.
