      "Flight Sergeant Baker has successfully completed many operational sorties, which have included attacks on Brunswick, Munich and Schweinfurt. He has displayed great courage and coolness in the most dangerous situations. One night in June, 1944, the petrol tank of hs bomber was hit when returning from a raid on Wessling. The aircraft was forced down to the sea and the captain, flight engineer and navigator were injured. This airman immediately took charge of the dinghy and in spite of hardships, succeed in maintaing the crew in safety, until they were rescued. His resource and cheerfulness were an inspiration to all." AWMM
