  • After WWII John had an extensive career in aviation.
    He returned to NZ with his warbride Vivienne and in 1947 obtained a flying position with NZNAC flying Lockheed 10A Electras, Loadstars, DC3s, F27 Friendships and Vickers Viscount.
    In 1965 he joined TEAL (Air New Zealand) and flew Lockheed 188 Electra, DC8 and DC10.
    He was forced to retire at the age of 55 and obtained a flying position as a DC10 Captain with Singapore Airlines until they grounded their DC10 Fleet and then with Garuda.
    Once again forced to retire he returned to NZ and pursued his aviation interests by flying PA31, C402 and other light aircraft.
    He took up gliding in the 1980s with the Taupo Gliding Club and was its Patron when he died.
    John died on 30th August 2015 aged 92.
