  • The first New Zealanders stationed in Southeast Asia were the men of A Flight, 41 (Transport) Squadron, who were at Changi Air Base in Singapore fron 1949-1951. They flew DC3 Dakotas on supply drops over the Malayan jungle as well as courier runs throughout Asia. In 1955, 41 Squadron returned to Malaya, flying the Bristol feighter aircraft that would become the ubiquitous symbol of New Zealand's defence effort in Southeast Asia. AWMM
