This Officer has only joined the Division a few weeks, but has already earned the confidence of all who has worked with him, especially during the operations on the Somme in which the New Zealand Division has been engaged." L.G. 15 May 1917, p5948, Rec No 569 "I confirm the former high opinion of this Officer’s abilities which I formed during the operations on the Somme. He is extraordinarily thorough and sound in all work. In my opinion he is well fitted for the Command of a Brigade." L.G. 20 May 1918, p4749, Rec 1998 "This officer has been G.S.O. (1) of the New Zealand Division since July 1916 till Nov 1917, during which period the Division has been engaged on the Somme, at Messines, and Ypres October 4th and 12th 1917. His many outstanding qualities have in previous despatches been the subject of my grateful, Rec No. Both myself and the New Zealand Division owe a great debt to Lieut-Colonel Livesay who has since left us, and it is hoped that his services may be suitably rewarded."
