    • Son of Edward Charles Reardon and Catherine McMillan Norton Source: Navy Museum.

John Reardon was the first New Zealander to die on active operations in World War One whilst serving on the HMAS submarine AE1 with the Royal Australian Navy Source: Navy Museum.

He was one of 35 crew on board the submarine AE1 when the submarine disappeared without a trace on 14 Deptember 1914. The vessel has not been found but it is assumed to be somewhere in deep water off the Duke of York Group. Update: In late 2017 the HMAS AE1 was discovered off the coast of Papua New Guinea island of New Britain. AWMM
