  • Reported as serving in this vessel in September 1918.

Jickell married Australian, Janet Mary Straughan Amess, 30 June, 1920, Wellington, New Zealand. Public source.

'The Distinguished Service Cross has been awarded to Lieutenant James JICKELL, RNR, who for the past year has been fighting submarines in the North Sea. He is the son of Mr J A Jickell of Parnell who is at present engaged in munitions work in England. He attended Parnell School and Mr Giles' College. He was employed by Messrs S Vaile & Sons before he went to sea, serving on the Craig Line of sailing ships, obtaining his master's ticket about eight years ago. He then spent some time in the Union Steamship Co. service. When war broke out he enlisted as a signaller in the Australian Imperial Forces and served on Gallipoli and France. When men were wanted for the Navy, he volunteered and after attending a Naval college was given a commission on a destroyer. He received his decoration at a recent investiture at Buckingham Palace.'
