  • One of three brothers who joined the Territorial unit of their County regiment, the 10 Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment.

    Trained as a signaller.

    Bn mobilised on the outbreak of war and was sent to India in October 1914

    In 1916 Shouler was sent to England for officer training.

    Nov 1916 joined the 1st Tank Corps Cadet Bn, Pirbright.

    In France he was given command of a fighting tank in the 1st Bn (A Bn).

    Wounded in hand and mouth and spent time in hospital.

    Later rejoined Corps and assisted with demobilisation until he moved to New Zealand.

    In 1940 volunteered fir service with the NZ army, he joined as a private soldier, soon Sgt on the NZ Temporary Staff with the Army Area office in Masterton with posting to Napier, Hastings and Nelson.

    Died in 1944 aged 52. AWMM
