Gladys Montgomery was an Aucklander who completed mediacl degrees at the Universities of New Zealand and Glasgow, and later worked as a medical officer at Stobhill General Hospital, Glasgow. Little is know of her service in the Spanish Civil War, but it is believed she served in an Ambulance unit and was located at Almeria, southern Spain for some period.
