  • APPEAL BOARD April 1917 - David Alexander Kirkpatrick sheep-farmer, Patutahi .- Mr T. Alston Coleman appeared in support, and stated that the appeal was not for total exemption, but a three months' extension would enable them to arrive at some other make-shift arrangements to carry on his own and also his father's stud farm.- Appellant stated that his father had made enquiries at the Masterton show to obtain the services of an expert, but had been unsuccessful.— David Kirkpatrick, senior, stated that he had no labour other than his son and two daughters, and had been working the place the last twelve months on his own. The question of labour was very serious, and there was no one left in the Patutahi district; they were all called up.— Captain Baldwin Called up to fight for us, and to maintain prices that a few years ago were never heard of. Witness said that he had not advertised. He was not above doing a bit of hard work, but could not do everything. The most serious thing was during lambing season next August, and an ordinary shepherd could not do his stud work. Appeal dismissed, with leave for one mouth.
