    • Oct 1917 - Mr James McPhee of Rakauroa has received the sad advice that his son Jack McPhee was killed in action 0ctober 9th. He left with the 12th Reinforcements, and gained the Military Medal lately. His brother Jim left with the 8th Reinforcements and was killed in Action on June 25th, 1916.     Private J. McPhee (killed) was the second eon of Mr Jas. McPhee, a well known Rakauroa (Poverty Bay) settler. He enlisted from Taumarunui, where he was engaged in farming operations. He was a member of the Eighth Reinforcements. Another of Mr McPhee's sons accompanied the 12th Reinforcements.
