  • Embarked Wellington on board HMNZT 'Tahiti', 16 November 1917; admitted to ship's hospital at sea, 27 December 1917 (frostbite); discharged from ship's hospital, 28 December 1917; disembarked Liverpool, England, 7 January 1917; marched in to Reserve Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, Sling Camp, 8 January 1918, and reverted to the ranks.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1918; joined No 1 NZ Entrenching Bn, in the field, 19 May 1918.
    Transferred to 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, 8 June 1918.
    Detached to 1st NZ Infantry Brigade Headquarters, 25 July 1918; rejoined Bn, 9 August 1918.
    On leave to United Kingdom, 21 January 1919; detained on leave, to report to Depot, Larkhill, 18 February 1919.
    Appointed Temporary Corporal, 20 March 1919.
    Commenced return to New Zealand on board SS 'Matatua', 28 June 1919; discharged (termination of period of engagement), 5 September 1919.
    War service: 2 years 119 days (of which 1 year 266 days was abroad)
